Communication Arts-
This week students will be working on their 5th Grade Brochures. They’re first required to do a rough draft to make sure that all mistakes have been corrected in their writing. Their rough drafts are due end of the day Tuesday. Final copies will be started on Wednesday. Final Copies will be due on Friday before Fun Friday begins. Students were given a rubric on how these will be graded, and I’ve gone over all the expectations with them. This will go towards their reading grade and will be a large part of it. All work must be done at school, as they are given ample class time to be able to do it. Students still need to be reading AR in the evenings, as most of them fell behind during MAP testing. Goals will not be readjusted.

SCIENCE: We will continue working on the Famous Scientist Research Projects this week.  The projects are due on May 11th.  Students should be bringing home a scoring guide in their Red Folders.
Thanks,
Mr. Richards

Math: MAP testing is over! We could not be happier with the amount of effort, hard work, and dedication that YOUR children put into their Math MAP testing, we are very anxious to see scores in August! We have our last STAR testing to complete. We will try to get this completed in the next two weeks, between the activities we have planned for the week. Students are also kicking off projects in all math classes. Mrs. Meurer is completing a Math Curse project with students, worth 100 points. Mr. Siders will be working on projects that use creating graphs and finding the Mean, Median, Mode, and Range of the data.. All work for the projects will be done in class, and completed next week. If students miss class, it is their responsibility to remain on schedule with wrapping up all components of the project before May 11th, when grades are due for 4th quarter.

Homework!

Students are to memorize their address and parent(s) phone number(s)! We had an assignment that asked for this information and about 85% of the students could not come up with it. I think it's very important information for them to have, so help them out this weekend :)

Communication Arts-
This week students will be testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for Communication Arts. Please make sure your child is here on time, eats a healthy breakfast, and gets a good night sleep. Students have been working very hard this year, and now is the time to really show what all they’ve learned and how absolutely wonderful they are!
J I have complete confidence that if everyone tries their hardest we will have spectacular test scores. Please stress to your child how important MAP testing is.
Monday we will be reviewing constructed responses and grading them based on a scale from the actual MAP test, Friday we will be playing educational games, possibly related to Math to help them prepare for next week’s testing.
SCIENCE: This week we will be exploring famous scientists.
Thanks,
Mr. Richards
Math: Last week went great.  The students and teachers really enjoyed the day of relaxing and being rewarded for such hard work this year.  Science MAP testing is done and this week will be the Communication Arts MAP test.  In Math students will be reviewing for the Math MAP today (Monday) and students will test in Comm. Arts on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  We think the kids are going to continue to do great as they have all year.  Friday will be spent reviewing for the Math MAP test as well as it will begin one week from today.  Please encourage your child to review any concepts they feel uncomfortable with.  This can be done at home by having the students use their login at www.tenmarks.com/login.
TEN MARKS EVENINGS:  Mrs. Meurer and Mr. Siders will continue to offer TenMarks math practice after school through the month of April.  This week will be Tuesday -Wednesday -Thursday and your child will need to be picked up no later than 4:30pm.

Communication Arts-
Students will be reviewing constructed responses this week. Last week we looked at the grading scale from an actual MAP test from years past, and lots of students said it really helped them seeing what was expected. We will continue reviewing editing and revision sentences. Don’t forget there’s MAP practice on Study Island for everyone, it’s a great way to see what your child knows, plus if they do well enough, there are educational games! Even though students will not be with me for a few days this week, they will be expected to continue reading, both at school and at home.
SCIENCE: This week we will practice for the MAP test on Monday, Field Trip on Tuesday, and take the Science MAP Test on Wednesday and Thursday.  Please make sure your child has #2 pencils, eats breakfast, and gets lots of rest for the MAP Test.
Thanks,
Mr. Richards
Math: We took our second "Practice" timed section in preparation for MAP Testing. We took our first practice section on Wednesday, of last week. The results are in tonight's folder. ALL students were given nine questions, and 15 strictly timed minutes to complete the questions. As there are timed portions on the Math MAP testing, which will kick off just two weeks from TODAY! Good luck to all students during the Science MAP Testing on Wednesday/Thursday of this week!
TenMarks will continue on Wednesday/Thursday of this week, back to Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday next week!
Field Trip Information:
- Cell phones will be confiscated if they are seen.
-64 degrees is the high temp for tomorrow’s game, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather!! Layers are the best way to go!
- Electronics will be permitted, but they are at the students own risk of bringing them and will be THEIR responsibility the ENTIRE time, as the teacher will not hold. Personally, I highly discourage your child from brining anything electronic, as there will be plenty of things for them to do on this awesome day!

Communication Arts-
This week we will be reviewing the ‘tough areas’ that we’ve struggled with this year: main idea and details, cause and effect, author’s purpose, and revision and editing of sentences. Students will be continuing reading AR during the testing window, and should make sure they always bring their book back to school with them from home each day. Students will not have a spelling list as long as testing is going on, but we will be reviewing lists from earlier in the year in a multiple choice fashion to prepare for MAP testing. Please feel free to logon to Study Island and do a few of the ‘MAP Prep’ assignments! These are great practice for students!
SCIENCE: This week we will be practicing for the MAP Test with in class practice tests and activities.  Science Buckle Down will be pages 185-198 and is due on Friday.
Math: This week in math we will be reviewing all concepts from this year in preparation for the MAP test.  With the MAP test beginning next week, we will also be teaching some test taking skills.  Since one portion of the Math MAP test is timed, we will have the students practice working under a timer.  We will also be working on “Spill the Junk” (brain dumping), another test taking strategy.
Mrs. Meurer and Mr. Siders are staying after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the month of April to help students with any questions they may have. We also have our classroom computers available for students to use to review math concepts. We have set up a "Challenge" for all classes. Students are going to be given an Extra Math Recess in May- students are using the on-line program Ten Marks. Each math concept that a student earns 100% on will give the student EXTRA minutes on their Math Recess! Students can work at home, during school, and after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays! Students staying after school DO NOT have to come every day or stay the full time. Students need to be picked up promptly at 4:30 or before. Students being picked up early can be found in Mr. Siders’ or Mrs. Meurer's rooms... or you can call if you need Mr. Siders at ext. 4320 or Mrs. Meurer at ext. 4319. Thank you. We are very excited about this year's Math MAP Testing. Students ARE READY!!!
